An Alternative to Buy WoW Gold
PieceOfCandy's Big Fat Guide To Becoming Rich
So, you wanna make some gold huh? Don't wanna buy gold from the lame farmers? Worried about being banned off wow for your gold buying? Well I got tired of looking at the awesome blue items on Auction House for 50-100G and going to myself "damn those bastards! They just rip you off!" Well, I have learned how to turn 5g into 20g and here is how I did it.
Chapter 1: The Great Teacher.
When I was around level 20 i was questing in 1k Needles and I had this really hard elite quest to do (had to kill a panther or something) anyway I used /who to search for a healer no priests no shaman only a druid, I said to myself "bummer". So I ended up asking him for help, turns out he had the same quest to do as me "yay!".
We ended up owning the panther and continued to quest together, we talked an junk, and I inspected his weapons and armor and they were all blues! I was like "holy crap man how did you get all those?" the response was "Auction House." he began to teach me about how to make money in WoW without buying gold or farming. I listened for about 1 hour and then we parted ways, I headed for TB and him for parts unknown.
I arrived in TB and began to apply his teaching with immediate results, 50s was in my mailbox within 10 minutes of touchdown! It was a happy day!
Where To Start?
You might be wondering how do I begin, well the first thing you need is the "seed" money, without this you will need to start small and will take a while, my solution is to farm for a while for money. I was lucky enough to get a blue twink drop soon after meeting The Great Teacher so it was an easy start for me. Pick up herbalism/mineing/skinning and make some gold using Auction House or the /2 (trade). If you already have fair amounts of gold then move to Chapter:4 Running The Auction House if not then continue on.
Chapter 2: Observing The Ebb & Flow.
The Auction House has its own flow and feel, prices rise and fall accordingly to the people’s tastes and the economy of the realm. You must watch the Auction House and look for the anomalies in the pricing if you see lots of items going up for a ton of gold then drop your price by a notch or two, even a few silver can make the difference between a sale and a loss.
Watch the trade channel, this is where you can make the most money due to the "buyer" wanting the item that you are selling, this "want" factor will make them buy for a higher price than usual due to the either urgent need of the item or some deal that they have made themselves. Now I am not saying to sell Linen Cloth for 5g a stack, just because you saw "WTB Linen Cloth PST!!!", but you might sell it for maybe 15s a stack instead of 10-12s, of course check Auction House before making your price to get the general going price range.
Chapter 3: If You Sell It, They Are Dumb.
The world is filled with "idiots", the same is true with World Of Warcraft, not everyone is a smart as you think they are. These people are your main targets, due to their lack of knowledge you have an advantage over them when buying and selling items. When you find that they do have this weakness do your best to exploit it as much as possible.
For example: after the 1.9-1.10 patch new items came out, such as the Herb Bag these were available from any herbalism vendor and cost about 5s each. Due to the newness of the items I had an idea, I grabbed about 25 bags for a total cost of 1 Gold 25 Silver, and I then began selling them in trade chat for about 2g each. About 3 sold in trade chat with COD offers and 1 with trade window, I then place all the remaining bags up on Auction House for 1g each, I then logged off and when to bed. Next morning I had about 20g in my mailbox, I had 1 herb bag left over which I vendored. All in all I made about 26-27g on a 1.25g investment.
Note: There are people who will call you out on deals like this, spamming "OMG NOOB! yuo can bui them from teh h3rb vendors! For like 5s!!" These jerks ruin your business and mess up your "Trade Rep"(More on Trade Rep in Ch:5) Immediately place these people on ignore.
Sub-Chapter 3: Vendor, Friend or Foe?
Another way to make gold of stupid people are the vendors, you know you have seen them, the ones who are in the middle of nowhere selling a bunch of junk. You may think they have been placed there for wayward travelers to unload trash loot to free up bag space, Wrong! Most if not all of these vendors have timed items. What are timed items? They are rare items that are sold by certain vendors only once in a time cycle, they range from alchemy recipes to engineering schematics. These can be bought for a minimal fee and resold on Auction House for a 300% profit gain! Don't you feel bad that you didn’t check that silly goblin vendor that you passed by yesterday?
Since some of these Vendors usually travel around, the odds of finding them before someone else is slim, but it is all in the luck of the draw. The only thing to watch out for is some vendors sell recipes that are Bind On Pickup (BOP), be sure to check these cannot be traded or Auctioned, therefore a loss of money on your part!
